MSM "RTR" Racing Rules
Spec racing is designed for all racers to have an equal opportunity to win from an equipment perspective. It is intended to create a cheaper way to get into RC racing without affecting the level of competition. These rules are designed so drivers that are "racing on a budget" can have an opportunity to compete with seasoned experts.
Please remember all cars being raced must have an AMB Transponder
Notable Rule Changes (updated 1-1-2024)
- Brushless BL-2S permitted

Spec Slash Rules
- 2wd Traxxas Slashes ONLY
- Approved electronics
- Traxxas XL5 with Titan 12t (must keep traxxas connector)
- Traxxas BL-2S 3300kv Brushless System (must keep traxxas connector)
- Traxxas TQ Transmitter and Receiver (NO TSM ALLOWED)
- Traxxas Servo Part Numbers
- 2056
- 2075
- 2075R
- 2075X
- Metal servo gears permitted (2072X)
- Traxxas durability upgrades permitted
- Must be Traxxas brand parts
- First 4 part numbers must match stock part number.
- For example, part number 2555 (stock rear arms) can be upgraded to 2555G (Green HD Arms)
- Aluminum shock caps permitted TRA3767*
- Aluminum bearing carriers permitted *
- Front TRA3636*
- Rear TRA3652*
- Must use Traxxas Slash 2wd wheels and tires
- S1 compounds are permitted
- Any Traxxas Slash 2wd tread pattern permitted
- Must use Traxxas Slash Body (No aftermarket bodies)
- No body venting
- Shock oil changes permitted
- Shock limiter permitted
- Stock servo saver/horn ONLY
- No hardware changes allowed. Screws and hardware must be used how they are intended. *
- Traxxas 2S Lipo or 7 cell NIMH ONLY *

Box Stock Slash Rules
- 2wd XL5 or BL-2S models only
- Must be run how it comes out of the box
- Optional gearing not allowed
- Traxxas 2S Lipo or 7 cell NIMH ONLY
- The “well technically” rule. If you have to explain why you think your car is legal by saying “Well technically it's OK because….”, it is NOT allowed.
Box Stock Bandit Rules
- 2wd XL5 or BL-2S models only
- Must be run how it comes out of the box
- Optional gearing not allowed
- Gluing tires to the wheels is permitted (only tire to wheel)
- Traxxas 2S Lipo or 7 cell NIMH ONLY
- The “well technically” rule. If you have to explain why you think your car is legal by saying “Well technically it's OK because….”, it is NOT allowed.
Spec Arrma Grom Rules
- ANY Arrma Grom model permitted (brushless or brushed)
- Must be run how it comes out of the box
- Gearing changes permitted
- 2S lipo ONLY
- The “well technically” rule. If you have to explain why you think your car is legal by saying “Well technically it's OK because….”, it is NOT allowed.
Arrma Vs Traxxas Rules
- Jato 4x4 BL-2s and Arrma Typhon 223S models only
- 2S lipo only (any brand any voltage)
- Servo upgrades permitted
- Gear changes permitted
- Shock oil changes permitted
- Differential oil changes permitted
- Shock shaft upgrades allowed (shaft only!)
- The “well technically” rule. If you have to explain why you think your car is legal by saying “Well technically it's OK because….”, it is NOT allowed.
Traxxas Exhibition Rules
- Traxxas LCG conversions allowed
- Any upgrades by Traxxas permitted
- TQi Transmitter and Receiver permitted
- TSM allowed
- Traxxas 2S Lipo or 7 cell NIMH ONLY
- The “well technically” rule. If you have to explain why you think your car is legal by saying “Well technically its OK because….”, it is NOT allowed.
